Ecosure Pulpmolding Technologies Ltd.(EPTL), a leading player in the sustainable packaging industry, has taken a significant step towards a greener future by signing a technology-transfer Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) – National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST). This collaboration, announced during CSIR-NIIST’s Golden Jubilee celebrations was inaugurated by the Ministry of Science & Technology and attended by esteemed leaders and experts from the field of agricultural research marking a pivotal moment in the development of 100% chemical-free biodegradable tableware.
The MoU with CSIR-NIIST is a testament to EPTL’s dedication to research and development and its penchant for leveraging new technologies and processes. By honing in on the expertise and resources of CSIR-NIIST, a renowned research institution, EPTL aims to accelerate the development of single-use biodegradable tableware made from alternative raw material sources like rice husk.
Rice husk, a byproduct of the rice industry, is an abundant and renewable resource. The options for the disposal of rice straw are limited by the great bulk of material, slow degradation in the soil, harboring of rice stem diseases, and high mineral content. Soil incorporation and field burning have been the major practices for rice straw disposal. By utilizing rice husk to create biodegradable tableware, EPTL is contributing to a circular economy and reducing the environmental impact of single-use plastics. This initiative is in line with the growing global awareness of the need for sustainable and eco-friendly solutions while also demonstrating the power of partnerships between industry and academia in driving positive change.
